This was a really, really painful listen
Excruciating interview with the Defence Secretary, John Healey, on Today.

He keeps insisting that "the world has changed", but when asked WHAT has changed, can only say "the war in Ukraine".

Ministers are either not willing or not allowed to tell the truth: that the US may no longer defend Europe.

Feels like the press is incapable of dealing with this sort of thing because it's so far outside the scope of what's considered realistic.

Business as usual for a media completely unprepared to handle the next four (plus) years.
The US networks, who were talking about the historic handoff between political rivals and the majesty of American democracy etc just a few moments ago are now commentating on the resounding boos facing Barack Obama, George Bush and Mike Pence as they walk into the rotunda.

No excuses for being over there any more. Even if you're a freelance journalist desperately peddling their wares.

I wonder if the world’s media are going to be a little objective in the coming months, rather than getting giddy at sensationalist headlines.

It’s time to ignore the soap opera on the other side of the Atlantic and build bridges with our European friends.
