Carved out some time to hit up the Brett Allen Johnson show on its last day at the Maxwell Alexander Gallery, hands down one of my favourite working artists:

@wufsoft.bsky.social heyo! Thanks for showing me your game at CGF!

The indie game you were wondering about, that showed up last year at the convention, was called Guntner.

That's a phenomenal cosplay! How'd you make the mask?

Also, what is the artist course called? I've been intrigued by antique and vintage courses directed towards artists.

Woah is that Satan from The Adventures of Mark Twain?

Also what's the bottle next to?

@thekroog.bsky.social I'm curious, what do you do with these ink bottles? Display, storage, etc?

Relating back to hats for a moment, I did reach out to the hatted professor, and he said there was a hat book in the works. I'm not sure how long it'll take; but when it does come out, I'd be the first one in line to buy it.

Now that you mention it, it does make sense. Is that why there isn't as much of a collective style as there was in the past? Sure, there are some trends that permeate corners of the internet that might make it out there into the general public, but generally speaking, it seems much more varied.

It just makes me aware of how niche hat related stuff is nowadays, despite how much growth the business has gotten in recent years. Most of the information I've gleamed was written decades ago, or is buried in 20 year old forum posts.

Gotcha! I was just curious if there has been anything put out since you initially published that book. Most of the books I've seen recommended are over 20 years old, not that there's anything wrong with that. It just makes me wonder if anyone else has done anything since then.

Really like this project by Ari Versluis and Ellie Uyttenbroek. Titled Exactitudes, it's a series of portraits stretching back 20 years that shows how people style themselves to signal they're part of a group and unique individuals within that group.

@neilsteinberg.bsky.social but yes, if you've got any suggestions relating to my interests, I'd gladly read them! Anything from fedora, western hats, to toppers and silk hats. I mainly gravitate towards 20th century offerings, but I'm game for anything really.

My area of interest is specifically men's fashion. But I do appreciate the referral! I need to broaden my scope outside of 30s and 40s workwear.

I've been fascinated by the world of classic men's fashion and hats for some time. Inspired by the likes of Edward Hopper, Scatman John, N' Bob Hoskins.

I appreciate what you've done! I've recently gotten into hats, hatmaking, and hat history. I was actually referred to you by Professor J. Bradford Bowers, he recommended your book Hatless Jack if I wanted to learn more about hats.

On that note, I was curious if you had books you'd suggest?

Sorry for the string of videos, but this is amazing and makes me wonder if this is what life could be like if we all just logged off the internet.

Today's finds and how I styled them! I had intended to just look for fun "smalls," but then I found the radio (from 1938, refurbished + bluetooth) and went home. 😅

I don't know why I was so captivated by the ribbons- I am very sentimental about ephemera and the like.
A wood paneled RCA Victor radio from 1938. It has a center speaker, with the frequency band underneath. The radio atop a bookcase with other roughly pre-war items -- a lamp with 2 pink glass shades, some ceramic cat figures, and a print from a French veterinary medicine specialist. Four satin ribbons from the 1915 Vermont Poultry Association show. Two of the ribbons - First and Sexond prizes - sticking out of a wicker fishing creel atop an old parts bin. There is also a small ceramic dog and an isopod.
