"Look, the President clearly has some kind of dementia" should be how Democrats begin every single comment to reporters these days.

Ruben Gallego on whether Trump is talking to Democrats:

“Look, the President clearly has some kind of dementia, so I think there's a he's probably talking to himself, or think he's talking to a Democrat, but I sincerely doubt that that's actually he's actually physically talking to a Democrat.“

I preferred Edwina Currie and the handcuffs to be honest.

Unusual result.

Honestly these people who dredge up some half-digested literary text and then try to expand the whole thing into a book...

Oh

Congrats to Prof Paul Cartledge for his superb refusal to be drawn into a discussion of the so-called Thucydides Trap on Start the Week on the grounds that the modern usage is, he believes, unsound. Top donning! #starttheweek

My Sunday Times piece: The chancellor has hinted at cutting official forecasts to one a year, which would be a mistake. Just treat one of the OBR’s two forecasts as advisory, not a call for immediate action:

Don’t shoot the messenger by burying OBR forecasts

Rachel Reeves should avoid making the UK less transparent than competitor economies by cutting down the number of official forecasts

He has also now saluted Nigel Farage's indefatigability.

Matt blows the gaff on Farage, Tice and Yusuf.

Terrific event at @theobserveruk.bsky.social last night with Steven Pinker discussing his new book "When everyone knows that everyone knows". There was good news! Behavioural/societal norms can be re-established, Prof Pinker said..but they may take longer to build up again than they took to destroy.

Farage looks rattled, already.
stefanstern.bsky.social
Farage immediately resorts to Trumpian outrage after being criticised. If he can't stand the heat...
stefanstern.bsky.social
It's called a bully pulpit for a reason. Farage doesn't like it up 'im and he will crumble under the head-on assault. His squealing is set to begin later today.

This feels like the speech Starmer should have given last year.

This is awesome news. As well as the Russian assault on the election, Sandu had to cope with the normal headwinds of incumbency and the mechanics of mobilising a huge young diaspora electorate. We could learn a lot from Moldova.

Imagine spending massive amounts of money trying to buy votes and even threatening to blow up the Moldovan embassy in Brussels to sway the elections and failing so miserably:

Maia Sandu’s pro-EU PAS has won a majority in the elections Russia made a huge effort to interfere with.

It's slightly embarrassing how happy it makes me to replace a lightbulb successfully, especially if it's in an awkward (ie high) spot.
