The hypocrisy is mind-numbing. Those who always complain the loudest about excessive EU red tape just voted in favor of banning terms like "Veggie Burger" on menus or food packaging, creating massive compliance costs for restaurants and food producers across Europe. www.euractiv.com/news/parliam...

In his talk, Steffen Hurka @steffenhurka.bsky.social (a close friend of SUPA) explains:

The University of Cologne plans drastic cuts to its Political Science department, potentially abolishing the MSc in Political Science and eliminating the professorships in IR and Comparative Politics. This would severely weaken the social sciences at @unicologne.bsky.social.

I started the year with a great personal achievement.

After years in the making, our book manuscript is ready and under contract with Oxford University Press.

So stay tuned for deep insights into the security apparatus of dictatorships.

🤔 The #EU 🇪🇺 aspires to be a global actor 🌍 — but do other states recognize it as such?

My new study in @intlinteractions.bsky.social develops targeted #NLP / #TextAsData tools to analyze 50 years of foreign policy discourse in the annual #UN General Debate (1970–2020).

The new issue of @worldpolitics.bsky.social also includes a contribution from me 🥳

The article studies the targeted use of foreign influence campaigns. It examines an exchange program of a young Harvard scholar & one of the most influential politicians of the 20th century.

Thank you! I fully agree and I tried to address this a bit in the final paragraph. Complex legislation is not necessarily bad legislation (often quite the contrary). "Quality" is rather meant here as a contrast to "quantity", i.e. the properties of legislative texts in contrast to their number.

Many thanks to my four fast and very good reviewers and to Berthold Rittberger, @lucasschramm91.bsky.social and Yves Steinebach, who provided very useful comments during the preparation of this article. Also thanks to @dfg.de for funding this research (6/6)

Interestingly, subsequent changes to the complexity of the initial proposal are not affected by the introduction of bicameralism -> bicameralism works through anticipation when policy proposals are first formulated! (5/6)
