Gold octopus-shaped ornaments from Bronze Age Mycenae, Grave IV, Grave Circle A. Probably sewn onto a funerary garment or shroud some 3,500 years ago.

Museum display with gold octopus-shaped ornaments excavated from Grave IV, Grave Circle A, Mycenae, Greece. Each octopus ornament measures 6.8 cm in diameter and has seven arms with suckers, the coiled tips of which create small holes which would enable them to be sewn onto fabric. They were probably sewn onto a funerary garment or shroud. Dated 1,500 BC. National Archaeological Museum Athens
