Today we visited the Wixárika community of Cerro de los Tigres, and participated in a event celebrating the Wixárika language. The community has made signs and books to allow children to engage with the language in school.

Always a new linguistic treasure to unearth: I didn't know this UNESCO map from 2018! Of course there is much to say about how accurate it is, with dialects vs languages, extinct vs endangered, but regardless, it shows a type of linguistic diversity in Europe that is rarely highlighted. #LingSky

The /f/ sound in the middle of 'nephew' seems like a case of spelling influencing pronunciation

The evidence from Middle English and French (today: neveu) points to a voiced /v/ sound, but after English writers added a P to its spelling to resemble Latin nepōs, it started to be pronounced like a PH
