Great article, John. Such an important point: operating models rarely break because the objects are wrong—they break because the relationships are unlabeled. When we name the edges and interactions, the system starts to make sense. Clarity lives in the connections.

Totally agree that clarity matters. I’m pointing to what happens next—how teams interpret and operationalize the same goal in different ways.
Leaders can feel clear in their own mind yet still end up with four interpretations because conditions on the ground vary so much.
