I think I'll be having my first hot chocolate of the season today. We're supposed to get between 2 and 7 inches of snow today, which is supposed to partially melt during the night and turn into ice.
It's a good day to do edits.

Absolutely, right there with you!
Today, I'm #grateful for early #morning. I'm awake between 4 & 5 am, & sometimes grouse about it, blaming the dogs or getting older, but I love these quiet hours before the day officially starts and most of the world still slumbers—time to think, read, listen to music and just be. #Thanksgiving2025

Happy Thanksgiving, y'all! And remember, you don't have to do anything, be anywhere, or see anyone you don't have to. Just be happy and thankful!😀 Unless you have to work, then you have to do stuff, be places, and see folks you don't want to, which isn't fun, but I feel for you😒.

I've baked the pumpkin pie and cooked down the cranberry sauce. I still have a peach upsidedown cake to make, but it's getting to smell pretty good in these parts.

What a drab, gray, cold day.

Okay, we know that the road to Hell is paved with good intentions.
But...
Where did they get the funding and the right-of-ways?

It's amazing how, when you pull something lifting a thing, you suddenly become very careful about lifting with your legs, not your back when it's way too late.

Damn. I have friends who were hoping they WOULD flee and free up some of those apartments.

I keep irrationally checking the Rivian website to see if they're making anything I can afford (and want), and also to reassure myself that they haven't yet gone evil, like Tesla did.

If you have to make an appointment to "touch grass," you've been doing your life the wrong way the whole time.

First snow in Indianapolis. Only an inch or two for us and barely sticking to pavement. I guess South Bend north of us got about a foot.
November 10, 2025 at 3:41 PM
It should start snowing in the next ten minutes or so. Not crying 'woe is me.' We're supposed to get maybe an inch, and the roads will only be wet. South Bend won the prize with 5-12 inches thru the evening. We were just there at the Oliver Inn.

I've winterized the yard. Wind chimes, lawn furniture, fence decor, statuary, garden clogs, all in the garage until April. Grass mowed close, flower beds cleared, patio emptied. Sigh...
a man with a beard is looking at another man and saying `` winter is coming . ''
Alt: Sean Bean as Ned Stark from Game of Thrones, grimly throwing out the hard truth of Indiana, "Winter is coming."

It's such a tragedy that air travel has been disrupted in the US. It's a horror story for the history books. It's almost as if there were no such things as buses or Amtrak.

I've said it before, and I know you might sniff at it, but this is absolutely the best song about a dog ever written. No schmaltz, no goofy nostalgia, just dog.

In the middle of Clean the House Day. I did the vacuuming and, as is our custom, Amy is doing the vacuuming behind me to make sure I did it right. I'm in the middle of mowing the lawn, which Amy won't do behind me because, you know, bugs and snakes.

So, I only have to live to May of 2031 to geet a decent look at Mars.

Americans! Provisionally good news! You can move to Svalbard, just pack up and go today! As long as you have a means to support yourself, own a good, heavy coat, a really big gun for fending off bears, and you're practiced at performing vital medical procedures on yourself.

🎵It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood, a beautiful day for neighbors...🎵

Consider:
John Carpenter's The Fog is a sequel to Halloween. Poor Laurie, traumatized by the horror of her experience in Haddonfield, IL, runs away, changes her name, and hitchhikes to California only to stumble into boat hooks and bludgeons out of the night.

Wow, and they don't even have cruise control and it's hard to fish those shotguns out of that bed.

It occurs to me that the Fantastic Four, with private spaceships, their own skyscraper living quarters, and their Future Foundation, are one percenters and everyone's begging them to protect us.
So what does that say about Marvel and Disney?

The wisdom is that you can't kill the dog. If you kill the dog, everyone will reject your art.
The folks who came up with this ludicrous writing rtule never saw The Thing from Another World or John Carpenter's The Thing.

It doesn't make the movie less terrifying, but the second the howitzer and the M1 tank showed up in Cloverfield, that monster realistically would have had about one minute left to live. Physics is a bitch that way.
