This year I have been putting a spotlight on the Australian Motor Heritage Foundation and I've interviewed the directors and volunteers who work tirelessly to collate and manage the historical documents, audio and video that is held by the Foundation. This interview is with an icon of Australian journalism - Peter Robinson. Peter was a founder of the Foundation and an early Director, however is now acting as an Ambassador for the organisation as well as working through the John Mellor Collection. In this interview Peter talks about his very long career, the Foundation and the Mellor Collection.

I spoke with Judith Dorrell at the GEAr Club day at One Raceway about the club, the race formats and why it is a great way to get started in motorsport.

I spoke with Robert Blake at the GEAR Club day at One Raceway. Robert brought along his 1953 Holden FX which is a fabulous car!

I met with David Martin who was campaigning his late father's 1959 FIAT Formula Junior. David's father built the car on a Stanguellini chassis.

At the GEAR Club day at One Raceway I spoke with Phil McPherson who brought two Formula Fords to the meeting: a 1980 Wren and a 1992 Swift SC92 to help a younger driver get in to motorsport.

This is interview two from the GEAR Club day at One Raceway. I spoke with Tony Cavanagh about his stock standard 1985 Mercedes-Benz 190E.

I went out to One Raceway near Goulburn with the GEAR Club and whilst watching the races, catching up with friends and checking out some of the amazing racing machines, I recorded six interviews with competitors. This is interview one with Robert Willetts and his 1965 Nota Formula Vee.

I went out to the Sydney Motorsport Park for Day One of the HSRCA Summer Festival and in between watching the races, catching up with friends and checking out some of the amazing racing machines, I recorded five interviews with competitors. Over 200 cars were in competition from Minis to sports sedans, Formula Ford and Formula Vee. There was something for everyone!

This is another in my series about the Australian Motor Heritage Foundation. This one is with Phil Whitton who works on the motorcycle collections. My interviews have typically spoken about the Australian connection to cars, race drivers and manufacturers, however Australia has a rich history with two wheelers including many world champions over the decades. I talk with Phil about his early motoring life, his racing and the motorcycle collections of books, magazines and video. Phil provides a fascinating insight into growing up in a country town, his racing including Formula Vee and Austin Healeys and his love of motorbikes.

This year I’ve been shining a spotlight on the Australian Motor Heritage Foundation. The Foundation is based out at Sydney Motorsport Park and they hold valuable historical documents for the Australian automotive industry. If you hold historical documents, then it is reasonable to find a historian as part of the volunteer team. One such is Dr Andrew Moore, who is also a lifelong car enthusiast and in his late teens was an attended the races at Warwick Farm. I spoke with him about the Graham Howard Collection, a collection of published materials that covers the history of Australian motor sport.

I recently met with James Nicholls founder of Halcyon Auctions at their offices in Mascot to have a pre-preview of the historic and classic vehicles going under the hammer on the 26th October at The Royal Automobile Club of Australia, on Macquarie Street, Sydney. Seventeen vehicles of differing ages will go under the hammer - with some absolute rarities from the UK, Germany and even the Czech Republic. In between are some stunning examples of European luxury and sports. Alongside the vehicles are five pieces of memorabilia.

In continuing our spotlight on the Australian Motor Heritage Foundation, I talk with Colin Piper about his work in curating the Brian Lear Collection. Colin Piper has been a motorsport enthusiast all his life. Colin's first taste of racing was at the Warwick Farm circuit. Brian Lear, who created the collection, was well known in hillclimb and historic racing with Elfins and Coopers. He donated his collection and in this podcast we find out how far Colin has got in working through the collection. Brian's passion was to find the newspaper articles of events - going back as far as 1905!

Our third interview with the folks that attended the Royal Flying Doctor Service Outback Car Trek. Now it's the turn of Dr Guy Hardwick, a young doctor who was selected to attend the event as part of the medical support crew. In effect, he did the whole trek in relative comfort - compared to some of the entrants! We talk about his background and brief off-road experiences and his view of the trek. We also talk about his work for the Royal Flying Doctor Service supporting remote communities.

This is another interview from the series recorded with the volunteers of the Australian Motor Heritage Foundation. These interviews were recorded earlier in the year. This time the interviewee is David Burrell who is a journalist and author. David started with speedway and then focused on car design in Australia. We talk about his RetroAutos magazine plus the books on design that he has published. We then discuss the work of Herbert Thomson, who built and marketed an Australian car back in 1899. Finally we talk about the importance of the Foundation to the historic vehicle community and the country.

This is the second interview with entrants of the Royal Flying Doctor Service Outback Car Trek. In this interview we talk with Matt Vicchi and Josh Graham, two members of Team 3333. It's a fascinating discussion about the reasons why they joined the Trek, the experiences that now cover all of mainland Australia and the cars that were used. Matt and Josh also talk about building cars suitable for such a rugged event along with adding some fun elements to the vehicles to make them stand-out. It is certainly a family affair for both of them.

I caught up with Geoffrey Bott, a pioneer in classic car rally events. He was the instigator behind the Repco Mountain Rally in the 90s, working closely with the Jaguar Drivers Club to develop the events before becoming a competitor - and winner - himself. Geoffrey has had decades of experience in organising and competing in classic car rallies. We talk about the Rally, his love of Jaguars including one called "Arthur". Geoffrey also had a rare Hunter Coupe some years ago. As Geoffrey was also a founding member of the Classic Rally Club, we also talk about that club.

This week I had the great pleasure to talk with Matthew Tosolini - the new Head of Motoring Events for the Royal Flying Doctor Service - South Eastern Section (RFDSSE). Not only is Matthew new to the role - the role itself is new. We talked about Matthew's background, his new role and the Outback Trek - one that he has done four times using three different cars! He encourages anyone with a 30-year old car to give the Trek a go and see parts of remote Australia.

The HSRCA held their Spring Festival at a cold and windy One Raceway near Goulburn. I spoke with Association President, Wayne Wilson, and a number of the drivers in Regularity and Group S.

This interview is with the Chief Operating Officer for the Australian Motor Heritage Foundation and recorded earlier in the year. It discusses the importance of the Foundation's Economic Value Study.

I speak with Peter Tomlinson, a volunteer for the Australian Motor Heritage Foundation. Peter's task is to curate the audio visual content held by the Foundation.

Ep 166 AMHF Rod Chivas - curating race results. Following on from episodes 147 and 157 with the Australian Motor Heritage Foundation, I interviewed Rod Chivas about the work he has done on race results from Australian motorsports events. Before Natsoft put everything online, it was all printed materials. Rod has collated thousands of records of race results!

The HSRCA Sydney Classic was held over the long weekend of the 7th and 8th June. I went over to interview some of the drivers on the first day pf competition. There were five great interviews!

I meet with Andrew Stankiewicz, a co-founder of Garage Vision Tek. GVT provides products and services to make any enthusiasts garage look fabulous and showcase the marque or model. We discuss the company, some projects and products that have resolved problems that an enthusiast can have.

An interview with Spencer Martin, the 1966 and 1967 Australian Gold Star Driver Champion. We discuss life on and off the track, specifically before and after the championship wins. We also talk about his historic racing and being an author!

On Sunday 25th May, James Nicholls from Halcyon Auctions will be hosting a special event at his auction house in Mascot - 12 Chalmers Crescent. He has a range of classic and rare cars going under the hammer - mostly European and well worth a bid!
