Aristophanes wrote about Socrates while he was still alive. Plato and Xenophon wrote about the trial of Socrates within fifteen years of its occurrence. Aristotle records a lot of second-hand information about Socrates. This compares with the gospels, written 30+ years after and not by eyewitnesses.
