Discovered a really great looking open source app I think I want to play with.

The authors are Swiss and all the documentation, everything, is in French. Love it. Down with the monoglot internet!

(The app is Digipad, https://codeberg.org/ladigitale/digipad and demo https://digipad.app/)

[nerd shit]

Wonder if we'll see a new trend of developers prioritising memory use. That could be good?

This is such a moving story. Couple invite a homeless autistic man into their home at Xmas, he never leaves.

I'm a very nuts-and-bolts kinda guy and this morning I'm struck VIVIDLY by just how weird that is

Like I read so many threads on here that go, like,

🐰 I have a problem affecting me
🦆🐇🐴🐢🐀 40 post discussion
🐹 The actual problem is capitalism AND THAT'S THE END OF THE THREAD

And like, 🐹 isn't […]

Question for electrically knowledgeable people.

I want to repair our toasted sandwich maker. Pretty clear there's a dodgy bit of power cord in a kink just before where it enters the appliance. Looks like I could just cut off 10cm of it and reattach.

When I took the back off the appliance, I […]

You could read this as just a review of some fancy ciders. And if you're me you might reflect on how very rubbish the selection available in this country is. But the point is quite different.

DON'T SAVE THE GOOD STUFF FOREVER.

When my sister and I finally had to stage an intervention, he still […]

When I would do apparently irrational acts like eg bicycle commute to the Wellington CBD from Marewa Rd in Hataitai or Euston Rd in Northland, I would respond (depending on my interlocutor) "if you want to be a tough person, you have to do tough things."

There is nothing wrong with not caring […]

Great piece this one. A man learns Welsh as an adult and connects, sort of, with his mother and late Nain: https://yalereview.org/article/dan-fox-learning-welsh

"[Housing First Ōtautahi] The outreach workers and nurses head out on to the street each day at 7am to talk to people they believe could be homeless. They speak to them about what they need and ensure they know about services available.

In their first week on the streets, the team encountered […]

A thunderstorm and hail warning for this afternoon! And I was gloating over my fruit and vege success yesterday.... If I lose the garden I might cry.

At least I'm not a subsistence farmer. Yet.

So I got some free windfall damsons on my bike ride, I have picked my first figs, some late broad beans, dug first potato plant for tonight's dinner... feeling very pleased with myself.

This morning I noted that the runner beans have young pods on them, the first ripe tomato doesn't seem too […]

For the first time ever, my fig tree has kept some of the breba crop to maturity and there's 10 or so ripe or nearly ripe figs! The birds just noticed and got 3, but I've picked the ripest remaining ones and we'll see who nabs the others first in the morning - perhaps I'll be the early human […]

US coal generation has collapsed from about 50% of electricity in 2005 to just 14% today. It’s one of the fastest energy transitions in modern history. Nearly 400 plants have retired or been scheduled for closure, and operating a coal plant now costs more than building new wind and solar in […]

*burp* I made falafel with tahini sauce for dinner.
