Important book that opens a window into an unsettling movement, spanning decades and many dangerous people.

Emmerich directed it!

Still just very entertaining. It is just a classic of the genre.

Just such pure cinema.

Can a president be a fighter pilot in a battle and take orders from the operational command? If he is the Command in Chief - does he take commands from anyone else if he is acting as just some pilot?
July 5, 2025 at 3:00 AM
Ok. The part where the space ship goes backwards - Andor mist have taken it from this movie.
July 5, 2025 at 2:56 AM
If this movie is supposed to take place in like 2010 - could a gulf war era F-18 pilot possibly be able to fly one? Do we assume the president kept up on upgrades in the 20 years between the battles?

Why do they use a tactical nuke on the mothership, so they won’t be destroyed if they are nearby? The ship is a quarter of the size of the moon. Would think you need something much larger.

Basically the entire foreign side of the movie is just middle of the road generic stereotyping.
July 5, 2025 at 2:46 AM
Probably seen it 10 or more times.
July 5, 2025 at 2:43 AM
Not in the last few years. And with family who have never seen it.

The computer virus thing is actually the most unrealistic part of this. Movie magic! Just using load some software somehow.
July 5, 2025 at 2:42 AM
Ok - the First Lady would not just be left there to die from “internal bleeding” if they had actual medical facilities. So either there are no doctors there or it is just obviously a narrative device.
July 5, 2025 at 2:36 AM
Why go through the trouble of launching a nuclear cruise missile from like a mile away?
July 5, 2025 at 2:32 AM
Incredibly convenient psychic communication with the president.
July 5, 2025 at 2:23 AM
The whole “you don’t think we actually paid 1000 for a hammer” thing about where military funds actually go - those costs that caused scandals was just an accounting issue. Plenty of articles about it.

That The crop duster pilot calls will smith “soldier”, and he doesent say no, marine - is just wrong.
July 5, 2025 at 2:12 AM
Oh, it’s Area 51 that they go to.
July 5, 2025 at 2:11 AM
They said they took out NORAD. Don’t they later go to the Cheyenne complex?
July 5, 2025 at 2:09 AM
Just real entertainment. Will Smith is just so charismatic. The days he could just carry a movie. Not the same anymore.
July 5, 2025 at 2:04 AM
Another movie where pilots have cool call signs (Eagle?). Top Gun really messed up our understanding of call signs.
