As a teenager in the 80s entering the aerobics scene I fell hard for the sun beds during the Dunedin winters and then when I became a group fitness instructor sun beds were a employee perk at Les Mills World of Fitness! Lycra, bronze and bata bullets! 🤦

On this day 108 years ago the captain of the 1905 ‘Originals’ All Blacks Sergeant David Gallaher, Auckland Infantry Regiment, was mortally wounded during the Battle of Broodseinde near Passchendaele on 4 October 1917.

At the same time NZ introduced conscription in 1916 but the following year in December 1917 introduced 6pm closing leading to the 6 o’clock swill that was one of the longest legacies of the WW I lasting until 1967.
