...and (b) isn't in any sense identical/reducible to llms, neural networks, etc. genAI is applied ML of a certain type, but again of just one type. can we please not taint the whole of ML on the basis of the outsized shininess of these silly things? "generative AI" is a perfectly apt/cromulent term.

"AI" is an impossibly large rubric that (as you know) encompasses tools, methods, techniques that do not make use of ML, but i feel as if what ppl who follow this stuff have thought of as "AI" for decades now (a) coalesces around the use of ML-based tools, methods, techniques ...

by this i mean that i (a u.s. citizen + former longtime atlantic subscriber) share the same feeling about both: impotent anger + hatred of the clowns in charge who are destroying something i love

urbit is the telltale product of a disordered mind. it's never been clear to me why it exists, other than as a cry for help.

nix is brilliance: an x-platform package + env manager; separately, nixos: the package + env manager + linux = declarative OS config. 2 quite useful, quite distinct things.
