Hi, I'm Charlie, and this is Stereo Hysteria! https://stereohysteria.podomatic.com
As per my usual, I didn’t find out about #JulydedByVoices until the end of the month. But I always enjoy a good #MusicChallenge, so here are my picks of 31 great songs from the extended GBV universe in one convenient thread.

A typically insightful piece from Elizabeth on how the era of rock and roll as an investible commodity is resulting in documentaries and biopics that heavily redact the sex and drugs.
"Once you’ve heard about enough toxic behavior, the familiar pileups of sex and drugs start to feel less like a thrill ride and more like a dull narrative cul-de-sac." Over at the New York Times Mag, I wrote about the new, less icky nature of music docs and biopics. www.nytimes.com/2025/07/24/m...

If it's now illegal to edit an interview for time and clarity, this podcast is in a lot of trouble

Kleenex Girl Wonder made its triumphant return to Chicago with a storming set tonight at the Hideout. 20 overheated and verbose power pop bangers in a row from throughout their sprawling discography. Yes —boss! @0gs.bsky.social

Since there doesn’t seem to be an Acyn or Aaron Rupar working the classic rock beat, it falls to me to share the highlights and notable moments from The Who’s press conference announcing their North American farewell tour.

Utterly gutted to hear of the tragic passing of @jillsobule.bsky.social. If you only know I Kissed A Girl, you owe yourself a deep dive — when I saw her last year, she asked for requests and got so many responses there was no time to play The Big Hit.

RIP Joey Molland, the last surviving member of Badfinger. His gutsy guitar playing, warm Scouse vocals and melodic songwriting were the last pieces of the puzzle when the band transitioned from The Iveys.

Check out the new single by @hussalonia.bsky.social - and maybe during your next call to your Congressperson, suggest it be officially adopted as America's next national anthem? hussalonia.bandcamp.com/track/rich-w...

Petty and Prince’s thoughts on health care and the music industry would be fascinating to hear — that is, if they hadn’t died self-medicating their chronic hip pain, incurred from spending decades on tour
This passage is grave robbery. It invokes Prince and Tom Petty not in service if the persons they are or the ideas they represents, but as useful puppets who aren't around to give their own thoughts, or counter this guy's bullshit.
