White racist Afrikaner Elon Musk says the AfD *MUST* win -- it's a matter of life and death, and Western civilization hangs in the balance.

The House would be voting on a bill, which will have to be passed by the Senate and signed by the president. Is that going to happen?

It's interesting that folks who think that even if the discharge petition forces a vote in the House, that it will lead to the immediate release of the Epstein files, even if the majority of the House votes to do so.

The folks who built Taiwan's system looked at how the rest of the industrialized world does it and took the best practices and effectively integrated them. We need folks like that, but they will be smashed by Republicans at every turn.
November 12, 2025 at 6:53 PM
For a lesson in doing it right, take a look at how Taiwan built its current healthcare system. It's arguably the best in the world.
November 12, 2025 at 6:53 PM
Of course the entire system needs to be reformed, but that's not likely to happen any time soon given the political zeitgeist, even as even right-wingers turn on Trump. Our main problem is political.

Barring that, at least such things as the ACA (with enhanced tax credits) allow a lot of people to get health insurance when they otherwise could not afford it.
November 12, 2025 at 6:52 PM
They have no idea how it works in the rest of the industrialized world. Republicans and the politicians who receive big bucks from healthcare sectors that profit from the dysfunction block meaningful reform.

It would be better of the government filled in for all the shortfalls in our society, but even if it did, we'd still be the broken, awful people that we are, and eventually it would all collapse. The collapse would not be caused by whatever economic system we had.
November 12, 2025 at 7:58 AM
Is it possible we're targeting the wrong thing? That the problem here in the U.S. is that the citizenry largely comprises psychopaths who just don't care about other people? That there is an almost complete breakdown of community outside of one's family? That the economic system is beside the point?

The Scandinavian countries are capitalistic. Are people lining up at food banks in those countries?
November 12, 2025 at 7:57 AM
A bunch of Dem Senators and Bernie seem to hopping mad about the capitulation. Either they mean it, or they're mighty good actors.

(And Angus King is by no means the worst that Maine has to offer._
November 10, 2025 at 8:15 PM
What we need, but sadly some of the most activist (on social media) are bored by it, are better local politicians. You need to build a base to cultivate good young candidates for higher office. They need support (not just money). Otherwise, we're going to keep getting Angus Kings.

I'm not sure what value no-party-affiliation gains. It's not as if you pay dues. In most places, you won't be able to vote in party primaries. And unless your rep is a bad one, who are you virtual-punishing?

I'm not so sure that Schumer learned, but in terms of basic leadership, he is deficient. He is the opposite of an inspiring figure who brings people together to move in a good direction. He is no Pelosi.
November 10, 2025 at 8:13 PM
Increasing numbers of people have been getting assistance from food banks, even before SNAP was a MAGA political football. That kind of trend doesn't impress you?

I'm glad yachts and airplane prices are relatively stable. You ought to step into a supermarket. Have you ever been in one?

And rent...
November 10, 2025 at 8:09 PM
Schumer, who was likely in the middle of the mess, even though he voted against it, needs to go.

Beyond that, look which state those folks are from, and who the electorate is in those states. Why do they vote for these people?
November 10, 2025 at 7:56 PM
You think those 7 Dems and 1 independent *ARE* the Democratic Party?

So what now? Jill Stein all the way down?
