It's very hard to do. It normally requires an Act of Parliament along with the King's permission. To strip Mone without that it would have to be through the Forfeiture Committee and they'd only act if she was convicted and so bringing the Honour into disrepute.

It's a fantastic novel. The 1959 film with Gregory Peck, Ava Gardner, Fred Astaire and Anthony Perkins is well worth watching as well. Another great Shute novel is In The Wet
