Excellent thread. I’d add that we’re not making a good job of defending a pluralist, constitutional democracy. As Robert says, it’s an urgent task.
People are sometimes puzzled when I talk about "authoritarian democracy".
This (translated into the language of an angry toddler) is what it means:
It's a malign form of democracy that treats dissent as anti-democratic & uses the authority of the people ("the VOTERS") to bulldoze checks on power.

Said goodbye today to Hazel French (Purple Haze), one of the Square 'family'. We will miss her as much as the Square itself. We relived some special moments with Clint of her enjoying herself in the venue. She had a long and happy life, and the sun shone on her day as her family bade her farewell.

Really pleased that for the first time, the Newtown Neurotics have an entire fanzine dedicated to them. France's 'No Country For Old Punk' Newtown Neurotics Special. It is a superb price of work too!
