When I recently described the Enron debarcle to some Twenty Somethings they seriously thought I was making it up. "Go watch 'The Smartest Guys in the Room'!" To this day it still makes me shake my head. Esp when people have a go at the Public Service. Yeah, the Private Sector is sooo much better.

The discovery of the planet Neptune is similar. John Couch Adams vs Urbain Le Verrier. Adams' calcs were way out and pretty much fluked getting close. Le Verrier actually did the math correctly. But hey, he was French and Adams was the British under(bull)dog. (Tom Standage ran with it that way too).
