It’s disgraceful that. CEOs are caving in to an increasingly authoritarian regime rather than speaking out for democracy. Any leaders who speak out would be helping the cause of democracy and ultimately the economy.

That Trump is trying and succeeding to seize power like an authoritarian dictator seems like it’s essential context for considering the Fed power play. It’s not like the effort to oust Cook is happening in a vacuum.

Trump is trying very hard to destroy central bank independence. I would guess the Fed will be successful in resisting this, but there’s no guarantee. Lisa Cook needs to fight the wrongful attempt to fire her.
