Not forgetting - that was a landmark achievement - but he could have ignored Lieberman and included a public option, paving way for Medicare for all.

The neo-fascists haven't overturned the 14th amendment yet.

To overturn a legislated Roe would require a filibuster abolition, which also hasn't happened yet.

So a regular old bill would be holding up fine and have popular support - at least till we get into Insurrection Act territory.

Obama had a change mandate.

He was a centrist with too many centrist/corporate Democrats to effect radical change, true, but that's why we need to primary out all the centrists and replace them with progressives who have the political will.

Biden had a casting vote trifecta for a few months.
December 8, 2025 at 4:58 PM
Obama had a supermajority senate trifecta for his first 2.5 months when Democrats could have legislated Roe, reformed SCOTUS, pushed through a massive reconciliation bill using taxation to redistribute wealth - instead they continue to bail out Wall street, automakers, and insurance companies.

making exceptions for refugees, DACA, families, and those with no/minor offenses who were trying to get documented but were unable to because of existing immigration law plus sanctuary cities.

Democrat lesser evil argument holds up on immigration and is more liberal than Nordic countries.

True, but a huge difference from the neo-fascists currently kidnapping immigrants (95% non-felons) off the streets and breaking up families.

Democrat deportation numbers look high, but overwhelmingly expedited removals of people who had newly crossed the border or violent offenders,

Not even arguable, just fact.

The new naturalization civics test is also hard. Every birthright citizen I've given it to has failed badly :)

If Trump was president in 1940, we would have a president who had not been born yet and he would be hundreds of times better than current president :)

This is an attitude I had much of my younger life - and I'm not sure it's a healthy one.

The bottom 50% of Americans have less than 3% of wealth.

Nearly half the world's population lives on less $5.50 per day.

That is obscene. They all need someone to give a fuck.

Yep, the warning signs have been around for a long time. It is essential we understand how fascism works. "Propaganda. There’s a certain kind of fascist propaganda where everything is inverted. The news is the fake news. Anti-corruption is corruption.” Jason Stanley, author of How Fascism Works.

tone and I'm not sure from this single example whether she's part of the systemic issue?

Of course, there are thousands of condescending posts to Black Dems everyday that prove your point.

You are right.

Genuine question from someone who's biracial -

Do you feel an old White woman addressing a powerful Black man, who enrages me because he takes money from AIPAC to support Israel's genocide in Gaza, is an example where the power dynamics are so mixed up that I understand her hostile

the left would support that candidate.

Without that, we resent mainstream Democrats doing far more than Republicans to damage our best chance of flipping Maine in senate.

with PTSD.

Mainers, nor I, want Chuck Schumer and AIPAC supported Republican lite candidates like Janet Mills who aren't primarily for the working class families of Maine rather than lobbyists.

If there was another candidate as popular as Platner, with same policies, but no baggage, of course
December 6, 2025 at 3:11 PM
If I was in Maine I'd vote for Platner because I agree 100% with his policies.

I agree with your points about his character. It's disqualifying, but I'm relying on Bernie's and Chris Murphy's judgement that his past doesn't reflect who he is now or even who he was except as disillusioned ex marine

Maine is the oldest, whitest state in US, and in bottom 10 states for income, jobs, and infrastructure.

A Mamdani-style progressive affordability campaign and candidate will win Maine and beat Susan Collins and that is the campaign Platner is running.

Janet Mills is failing the poorest and most vulnerable in Maine.

She has vetoed 25 progressive bills as Governor, most upsetting to me being blocking minimum wages, mandatory overtime and union rights to farmworkers.
