I find it very helpful when the candidate’s written statements help me to make that case by explicitly saying why their contributions to knowledge, education, and service are so important. Don’t assume every letter writer (or committee member) is intimately familiar with your work or field.

I try to emphasize the candidate’s impact on their field, their trainees, and their institution. That includes what they have done to date as well as their future potential. I try to highlight specific examples to illustrate this impact, and avoid just summarizing the CV (wh/ looks superficial imo)

Seems to have left out an important word (which I assume is “no”) in the first sentence of the paragraph about direct budgets exceeding $500K in a year.

And don’t discount the possibility that he may very well may know what that means but realized it was needlessly unclear so found a way to clarify it for the audience without throwing anyone (except the host) under the bus.

But it does give Roger Waters plenty of down time to think about what racist rant he wants to go on next. So really, it is all about multitasking.
