Warren Ellis remains a frontman like no other, part shamanic performer, part hilarious surrealist raconteur with an air of chaos/danger/violence never far away.

Dirty Three at the Barbican. A truly extraordinary show by one of the most viscerally, thrillingly powerful bands on the planet. They create a sonic maelstrom like no other.

Stereolab at the Royal Festival Hall. An absolute joy as always (and almost 24 years since Shalini and I first saw them at the same venue back in 2002 - the first gig we went to together 🙂)

Whenever I walk past this business in Leyton I can't help but say its name to myself in the voice of a certain character

Lovely to see this tribute to Mani outside Wembley Arena last night ❤️

A little bit of You Made Me Realise 💥

Immense show by My Bloody Valentine at Wembley Arena last night. Phenomenally loud and absolutely blissful/thrilling at peak. That mid-section of You Made Me Realise remains a truly brutal sonic onslaught. Think my ears have just about survived.

Radiohead at the O2 Arena. A brilliantly wide-ranging show that incorporated a generous selection of hits (three songs from The Bends, six songs from OK Computer), some superb moments from their mid-period and some impressively esoteric/experimental detours along the way ❤️

"The singer out of Slipknot went to Rome to see the Pope, the singer out of Slipknot went to Rome to see the Pope and this is what he said... who the fucking hell are Slipknot, who the fucking hell are Slipknot, who the fucking hell are Slipknot in relation to me getting out of bed?"

Chicago post-jazz/post-rock/post-everything ensemble Tortoise at the Barbican last night. So happy to have seen them again, a mere 24 years after I last saw them at Shepherd's Bush Empire. Such a unique and engaging blend of sounds and ridiculously high levels of musicianship.

Levellers celebrating the 30th anniversary of their fourth album Zeitgeist last night at Shepherds Bush Empire. Brilliant show (although I would have welcomed a longer encore featuring more from the first three albums).

Levellers!

(seeing them at Shepherd's Bush Empire tonight a mere 32 years after I last saw them at the Newcastle Mayfair - my first ever gig!))

Might have just been offered a ticket to the gig of the year 😍

One of the actual-best-bands-on-the-planet Field Music commemorating the 20th anniversary of their debut album at Islington Assembly Hall last night. Absolutely magnificent. Nice Black Country, New Road vibes from Truthpaste as support also.

If you see this, post an album cover with a motor vehicle on it.

From Facebook memories. How quaint.

Gillian Welch & David Rawlings (with Paul Kowert occasionally on upright bass) at the Palladium last night. Absolutely magnificent show, two sets of timeless songs played exquisitely by superlative, gracious performers.
