No joke, just amazed someone wrote a play about a chemistry professor. Normally, the closest thing to a play in our field happens during the skits at grad school departmental Christmas parties.

A group of visiting students asked me that on Tuesday. I mentioned many of these, but the availability of so many starting materials these days is game changing. I described by shelf full of catalogs which was 0.1% of what you can find on Scifinder or Reaxys today.

After 4 years and 5 months in the grinding American research system it was jarring to think that you could learn enough Organic chemistry to work on a professional level without spending 70-80 hours a week in the lab with almost no vacation.

I was in Europe for a postdoc a few years before you and I was genuinely that shocked that the grad students took vacation time.

For the first decade of Suzuki's it was mostly DME/water mixtures or maybe that was just me and my pals. I don't know at what point it turned over to dioxane.
