Born 8 Oct 1932, Ray Reardon was a Welsh snooker player who dominated the sport in the 1970s, winning the World Snooker Championship 6 times & claiming more than a dozen other titles. Until his mid-30s he worked as a coal miner then a police officer while playing snooker as an amateur. #RayReardon

Released 8 Oct 1971, In Search Of Space by #Hawkwind. The band started recording the album at George Martin's AIR Studios but after a week, the engineers were said to be reluctant to work with the band after friends of the band broke into George Martin's drinks cabinet & pinched all his booze.

It was the band's 1st album to hit No.1 in the US, knocking The Beatles' Abbey Road twice off the top spot, where it stayed for 7 weeks. When 1st released, the album had advance orders of 400,000 copies in the US. #LedZep

8th October 1977, one half of TV cop show "Starsky & Hutch", David Soul was at No.1 on the UK singles chart with 'Silver Lady', his second and last UK No.1 single. A confirmed Anglophile, David moved here in the mid 90s & married a Brit in 2010 (Helen Snell). He died in 2024, aged 80. #DavidSoul

Born 8 Oct 1948 - Johnny Ramone, (John Cummings) guitarist from US punk rock band, Ramones who had the 1977 hit single 'Sheena Is A Punk Rocker'. They are often cited as the first band to define the punk rock sound. Cummings died of prostate cancer in Sept 2004. #JohnnyRamone

Born 8 Oct 1947 - US singer Sheila Ferguson from The Three Degrees. She sang lead vocals on most of the group's biggest hits, most notably the 1974 'When Will I See You Again', which was a huge success, topping the UK Singles Chart and reaching no 2 on the US chart. #SheilaFerguson

Born 8 Oct 1939, actor Paul Hogan. He starred in the film 'Crocodile Dundee' which produced one of my favorite lines ever from a movie. After Hogan was threatened by a punk in New York, wielding a weapon, he turns to his new girlfriend and says: "That's not a knife. This is a knife!" #PaulHogan

Born 8 Oct 1949, actress Sigourney Weaver. She rose to fame playing Ellen Ripley in the film Alien (1979), which earned her a nomination for a BAFTA. She reprised the role with a critically acclaimed performance in Aliens (1986), for which she received her 1st Oscar nomination. #SigourneyWeaver

7 Oct 1976 John Lennon was awarded a Green Card-permanent residency status which overturned efforts by the US Govt to deport him. The US Court of Appeal ruled that his arrest in the UK for dope possession was "contrary to US ideas of due process & was invalid as a means of banishing him from the US"

Released 7 Oct 1977, Midnight Wind by The Charlie Daniels Band. AllMusic says, "Midnight Wind is an overlooked title in the Charlie Daniels Band oeuvre, never appearing on CD until Raven released an expanded version called Midnight Wind...Plus in 2009." It was certified Gold by the RIAA in Feb 1995.
