Born 8 Oct 1932, Ray Reardon was a Welsh snooker player who dominated the sport in the 1970s, winning the World Snooker Championship 6 times & claiming more than a dozen other titles. Until his mid-30s he worked as a coal miner then a police officer while playing snooker as an amateur. #RayReardon

Released 8 Oct 1971, In Search Of Space by #Hawkwind. The band started recording the album at George Martin's AIR Studios but after a week, the engineers were said to be reluctant to work with the band after friends of the band broke into George Martin's drinks cabinet & pinched all his booze.

It was the band's 1st album to hit No.1 in the US, knocking The Beatles' Abbey Road twice off the top spot, where it stayed for 7 weeks. 8th October 1977, one half of TV cop show "Starsky & Hutch", David Soul was at No.1 on the UK singles chart with 'Silver Lady', his second and last UK No.1 single. A confirmed Anglophile, David moved here in the mid 90s & married a Brit in 2010 (Helen Snell). He died in 2024, aged 80. #DavidSoul

Born 8 Oct 1948 - Johnny Ramone, (John Cummings) guitarist from US punk rock band, Ramones who had the 1977 hit single 'Sheena Is A Punk Rocker'. They are often cited as the first band to define the punk rock sound. Cummings died of prostate cancer in Sept 2004. #JohnnyRamone

7 Oct 1976 John Lennon was awarded a Green Card-permanent residency status which overturned efforts by the US Govt to deport him. The US Court of Appeal ruled that his arrest in the UK for dope possession was "contrary to US ideas of due process & was invalid as a means of banishing him from the US"

AllMusic says, "Midnight Wind is an overlooked title in the Charlie Daniels Band oeuvre, never appearing on CD until Raven released an expanded version called Midnight Wind...Plus in 2009."
