"The measure of a life is not what that life accomplishes but rather ... the impact that life has on others." - Jackie Robinson. You will be missed, you will be remembered. Peace be with you and your family.

Given his belief in the necessity of certain theological doctrines (which I don't believe you accept yet), he states that while you are not a Christian per se and he cannot categorize you fully as a Christian, you are on the path to full acceptance.

My personal favorite Bugs cartoon. And widely regarded as one of the best.

I thoroughly enjoyed the article, I read it when it came out. I think quite a bit about many of the same things. And now I've had to add two more books to the ever growing list of must reads.

Jack Vance character if I recall. But it's been ages since I've read any Vance. I'm a huge fan of some of the old titans. Asimov, Bradbury, Clarke, and my personal favorite Heinlein.

For groups, if you consider the thoughts of Royce, would the shared ideals, ethical commitments, and pursuit of unity (creating a loyal community), be the application of this point of view on a larger scale? Side note would appreciate any reading recommendations on Royce as I am new to his work.

Ok so I understand James's point of view with the Will to Believe, that was actually the first philosophy that I ever read (tough reading at 12 years old), and I can understand its application to the individual. But to me he didn't really seem to apply this to larger groups.

Can't pass up an opportunity to ask a question. While pragmatism doesn't necessarily promote theism, it does seem to be more open-minded about the exploration of religious beliefs than many other philosophical traditions. Can you offer up a reason or two why this is?

Granted it was written in the 80's, but it was not published until the 90's.

How about Flint Schier's "The Kantian Gulag: Autonomy and the Liberal Conception of Freedom"?

"What Is It Like to Be a Bat" by Nagel for the 70's. "Is Justified True Belief Knowledge" by Gettier for the 60's. And perhaps "Divided Minds and the Nature of Persons" by Parfit for the 80's.
