Hey Bluesky! I’m a Canadian landscape artist based in Calgary.

I’m hoping to have a combined sale of paintings and pottery along with my wife in Calgary this fall. I figured I might need to have some smaller pieces available so I built a bunch of frames for small paintings I’ve completed over the last little while.

I think this one is done. I am fascinated by industry and factories at night but haven’t tried painting them until now. I might have to make a series of these.

I love a good hike through the Forest. I found that a photo rarely can recreate that amazing feeling of being deep in the trees, with sunlight dappling through to the ground. But with a painting, I can create the impression of what it felt like to be out in nature.

Painting outside is hard. The wind blows everything everywhere, the sun is in your eyes, it’s hard to tell what colour a thing is or how big to make it. But at least your outside.

Only need about 9980 more hours of this and I’ll have it mastered.

Last page of this sketchbook. I’m always surprised when I actually finish one.

Olive Lake. Oil & acrylic on panel with a handmade maple floater frame. I make the frames for most of my paintings myself. It’s nice to have an excuse to do some woodworking.

This one is sold, but there are others available on my website at www.steveseeley.com/paintings

I worry about offloading difficult mental tasks to AI, even though it can be very tempting. This article makes a good case for resisting that urge.

I can’t believe as I left work that it wasn’t pure darkness as I stepped out the door. The sky has really been firing the past few days. Good job earth.

I decided to get my paint tubes organized. This is so much better than having them all piled up in a box.

A quick sketch of a dark wintery landscape done during lunch hour.

I have started doing quick studies at lunch and it’s nice to not have to be so precious making things perfect and instead just try to quickly establish a mood.

A painting from a little while ago. This has a custom birch floater frame I built for it.

This one is still available. www.steveseeley.com/paintings for more info.
