The historian of in me always wondered why their wasn’t more opposition to the N*zis, and why there was such quiet acceptance of hoping the system would reign them in. Sadly now getting an understanding of how a populace succumbs.

As a free thinker alpha male one of my highest values is unquestioning obedience to authority. Boss knows best, that's why he's the boss

In short, if we don't learn from our past, our futures will eventually all be history.

And rest assured, espescially in the US, the discrimination, rhetoric, systemic bias, and discrimination, it's all by design. A design we need to reform and dismantle. This guy Trump ain't for all of us. He's for the supremacists, he's for the oligarchs. He's for himself. (19)

Anyways, we cannot tolerate the salute. Good on those scrutinizing Elon. For those making excuses, I hope it's not out of maliciousness but ignorance. But even then, this is serious enough to not be ignorant on. This kind of evil has lasting impacts that drive even normal people to hateful acts (18)
January 24, 2025 at 1:17 AM
And patriotism to justify such deplorable actions, with law enforcement "just following orders" (like another group who pleaded during Nuremberg....) I mean the resemblance is uncanny. Even in my own family some of the most loving people become irrationally angry when it comes to this stuff. (17)
January 24, 2025 at 1:15 AM
Just look at the US right now. Dehumanizing illegals, stripping them of their humanity by violating Supreme Court cases saying they are to be safe and secure treatment, the former Trump admin having the closest thing to concentration camps in years in his prior term, rampant nationalism (16)
January 24, 2025 at 1:14 AM
That's why even something small, like making the salute that Elon did, must be denounced and scrutinized. The evil that it references didn't just cause lasting damage, but infected the world in ways that now-adays we have the luxury of seeing as unfathomable (15)
January 24, 2025 at 1:13 AM
That some groups "just aren't human". Look at someone like Josef Mengele. Perfectly normal individual prior, who compartmentalized his brutality in the name of "genetic science". But it wasn't. It was a crime. It was a genocide, the crime of all crimes. Some of the worst in human history. (14)
January 24, 2025 at 1:10 AM
But here's the other dynamic we need to be aware of as well, that is, that it wasnt enough to be racist or nasty to one group, but that the governmental system for those saluting followers, rewarded cruelty, incentives and normalizes dehimanization, drove normal people to accept (13)
January 24, 2025 at 1:08 AM
Now let's look at this salute and what it represents. Did those evil monsters in the 40s only discriminate against Jews? Or was it against Slavic groups as well? We all know the answer... (12)
January 24, 2025 at 1:06 AM
In short, racism drive in-group versus out-group thinking. And when normalized in a variety of ways can cause groups to weaponize hate to climb social ladders. This is because "being white" is fluid and changing. It isn't universal. (11)
January 24, 2025 at 1:05 AM
Now don't get me wrong character limits..simplified..all that.. but anyways. One of the points I'm making here is eventually whiteness isn't enough. Certain "whites" are better than others. " Irish? Lol. But English are better!" But even then you can keep moving the goal posts (10)
January 24, 2025 at 1:02 AM
But for another, Irish made inroads into governments, law enforcement, progressive labor movements, etc... and while this was ongoing, the irish distanced themselves from those groups...by discriminating against them as well. (9)
January 24, 2025 at 1:01 AM
And yet, eventually, the Irish became white as a result of some progressive and complex changes. For one thing during the gold rush in the US the influx of Chinese immigrants resulted in a "screw you" backlash from those Irish folks. (8)
January 24, 2025 at 1:00 AM
Anyways. For years, the Irish were seen as basically disgusting barbarians. The "Irish need not apply" slogans often forced us into positions, taking lower waged jobs competing with other marginalized groups to survive. Hilarious too considering Irish invented soap but hey..racism right? (7)
January 24, 2025 at 12:58 AM
It was a long loooonnng time ago but Irish were once as good as "white" .... you-know-what. And in fact other groups have been called the same. Depending on location, Polish folks, Italians, etc.. have dawned the same nasty slur. (6)
January 24, 2025 at 12:53 AM
And visually i look like a white guy. So I get treated like one. I get it. But racism doesn't end with just one group dominating another because they're darker, or different. It's inherently regressive, hate gets worse and grows, ergo my previous point. Allow me to explain (5)
January 24, 2025 at 12:49 AM
So, for one thing, everyone even white people should be against racism and denounce Elon. For one thing it's just the 'right thing' to do. But for another it's also because it impacts white people and helps us too. I don't mean to make this about us, I know several groups have it way worse (4)
January 24, 2025 at 12:47 AM
I tell you this because I think it's worth knowing in the interests of full disclosure, but also to discuss how racism can be fucking weird at times. Seriously, how did no one in those groups my biological Dad was in didn't be like, "lol you're first bud" is beyond me, but here we are. (3)
January 24, 2025 at 12:45 AM
For one thing, let's start with my ethnic background, I'm half latino and half scots-irish. My biological father was a supremacist despite being born in Honduras and was part of the reason for me being in a closed adoption. Besides the point, I have a BA in Poli Sci and minored in History (2)
January 24, 2025 at 12:44 AM
I cannot believe I even have to talk about this in 2024. I saw the salute Elon Musk made, and regardless if it was accidental ignorance or intentional, I think we need to have a much broader discussion about racism, how it works, how bad it can be, and why behaviors like this cannot be tolerated (1)
