I have no idea why it might be that I've never ever rebased a commit and other people feel like it is an important thing to do.

now that you don't have to take off shoes or take out screens in many airports, is there even a difference? For my home airport, precheck is usually slightly slower

When I used to live in Brooklyn I used to LOVE shoveling the sidewalks. It was fun and you felt a sense of pride knowing that you were suddenly thrown into the public service of your fellow pedestrians!
