This explains why people in favour of renewables are often embarrassed to express their opinions whilst climate change deniers feel comfortable loudly opining with minimal challenge

Unfortunately the Home Secretary calling for pro Palestine protests to be suspended because of antisemitic hate crime is simply continuing to feed this dangerous conflation. Judaism is not owned or defined by Netanyahu.

Anyone who conflates antisemitism with criticism of the Israeli government’s actions is feeding this problem. Antisemitism is abhorrent and anyone should be able to criticise a government’s actions without automatically attracting this label.

As a separate point I am always amazed how many people don’t realise they are giving Big Tech and over 3 billion people a running narrative and perpetual record of their life by posting on FaceBook

I’m not sure what you think the point of social media is, if not to give people you don’t know about the opportunity to read and follow what you write. Pretty much any large business with social media presence will be watching dozens of accounts.

This whole case has hinged on the definition of surveillance so it will be fascinating to see whether any independent review will consider “reading people’s public statements” as “surveillance”

Do you know any journalists who read other people’s public social media accounts regularly? Does it help them do their job as a journalist? Have the owners of those accounts given their permission? Would you describe that as surveillance?
