I have, in my time, asked SF writers to write non-fiction. The results have been, without exception, both brilliant and entertaining.

It's almost as if excellent SF writers are excellent writers full stop.

Only by damaging themselves. I think is probably a combination of things (talking now to a friend involved) in that it’s partly political and partly logistical but definitely not to do with it being unpopular.
