I am Alex Comb. I build wooden boats, specializing in canvas covered cedar rib-on-plank canoes. I also build lapstrake rowing boats. I know very little about Zen, but it’s apparent simplicity has always drawn me. My concept of it guides me in all I do.

All parts of a wood and canvas canoe can be replaced. I’m replacing eight of the ribs on this one. It’s tricky to get the hull back into original shape with so many original ribs broken. Careful work yields satisfying results.
