Indies seem to more often properly optimize their games because they genuinely want everyone to have a good experience, and the backlash to poor performance is more impactful when your reach is smaller.

I could be wrong of course, but that is what it seems like at the moment.

My take is that proper optimization takes a lot of work, and to a large company more work means more costs. Making it almost impossible for a game to be optimized in a larger corporate structure, as the majority of consumers either don't mind, or are taught that their device is just too weak.

I thought you meant like, any game made could run on a ps4, if you just go through the trouble of optimizing it, which also seems true.

Though I also agree that a unique aesthetic vision will always be more valuable than fidelity.
