I chased a guy into the westside new leaf parking lot after he blew through the flashing crosswalk (with pedestrians in it) at way above the speed limit. He looked incredibly embarrassed and shocked to be called out on it.

My local area has tons of people driving to our ride our trail systems, mostly from urban areas where there are no trail systems within safe riding distance. Shockingly, many of those people aren't as white as those of us who live with the trails literally out our back doors.

I know many otherwise progressive, urbanist folks who's anti ebike opinions stem directly from negative encounters with emtb riders on our local trails. I try to take a more nuanced view: ebikes on trails bad, ebikes on roads good.

I think "mustache wax" and "silly hat" enthusiast captures the writers perspective more than "fitness" enthusiast.

I ride with a few older fellas who've transferred their negative encounters with ebikes on our local single track to ebikes in any context. Personally, I maintain the cognitive dissonance that ebikes shouldn't be allowed on single track, but should replace cars everywhere else.

You can definitely get a frame in that range from a bunch of great builders, all the bits and bobs could break the bank unless you have a donor bike for parts.
