This is simply terrible, my heart goes out to all those who have lost lives, homes and livelihoods. Trump seems to be more interested in cryptocurrency and gilding the White House than he is in the wellbeing of US citizens.
There has been an article on this flooding in the Guardian (UK).

And my point is that they aren't going to make as many people unhappy as you implied. Simple as that. Also, £200 per month is not going to make much difference to the spending power of the wealthy. They will go on squirrelling their wealth offshore, regardless. I agree that's the root of the problem

They're going to have to bring that threshold down a very long way to upset enough of their voters (ordinary, hard-working people, as politicians are so fond of calling us) to cause problems. I'm fairly comfortably off in the home counties and the value of my house is way, way below £2m.

They are all collagen scientist so it must be true 🤓

The two are not mutually exclusive.

The thing is, it wasn't just about the snails. They are an indicator of a healthy water catchment area. The ramifications of development go a lot further. Rachel Reeves's statement that the snails were getting in the way was an oversimplification to sway the voters.

Fair question.

Its a whole lot bigger than who runs food banks. Pointing out hypocrisy is not the same as mocking. Why should Christians expect to a) convert me to their faith and b) expect to impose their mores on the rest of us? They are free to follow their personal beliefs, a precious privilege we all share.

Health and well-being is enormously important but, given the range of health and environmental problems of artificial turf, the world should find other ways of fulfilling those needs. We are looking through the wrong end of the telescope.

Nah, just the government trying to pull the wool over people's eyes. Happens all over the world.

Good to read the name Ransoms, haven't seen that for quite a while; it was the name I first learnt. People round my neck of the woods call it wild garlic.

Are we any more likey to reproduce less than consume less? Countries with the highest pop. growth have the lowest CO2e output per capita.

It's hard to know why. I hope they will spread in time.

They said not. I expect you need to give it time, especially if you haven't got pioneer species trees close by to seed into your land. The trees in the photo look like birch, which spread rapidly and densely by seed.

Yes. Just my perception. It's the sort of car that I see too close to my rear bumper on the motorway. Maybe that's a female thing but it looks threatening. It doesn't suggest a considerate, polite driver to me.

...in the eye of the beholder. It reeks of aggression to me.
