Today adhd, networks, and planets aligned. Run ragged but three Things in the pipeline which have the potential to be very interesting projects/be a force for good.

A pregnancy yoga teacher is telling folk they’ll have a pain free birth if they book her classes.

I’m so mad. This is the sort of shit that gives us all a bad name.

Beware any birthworker who doesn’t bring nuance. Doctors who say ‘you must do this’ yes, but also doulas who are anti-intervention, teachers who tell you you’ll get X birth of you do Y.
Birth is nuanced. It can’t be guaranteed. Some things are good in some circs and not in others.

I got the results of a dna test today. 72% English (made up of NW and NE - correct!) and 22% Scandinavian which would account for why most of my family are giants. I’m not sure how accurate they are as my brother and I thought we had French blood?

The observed phenomena in action: mum to 3mth old is just realising her birth was traumatic & care not good. If asked just after birth she’d have said it was excellent. This is why bedside feedback is dangerous. Proper opportunity for feedback later is needed. (Where are MNVPs?) #maternity

One reason it’s important to have ppl with lived experience on boards: professionals become so siloed they sometimes miss the bigger picture and don’t ask the right questions. (Yes this is because I’ve just asked a question that seems very obvious to me but has sparked a 20 min and counting debate!)

A light week for me as lots of non-work meetings! You know how to get in touch if anything piques your interest.

What is this a skull of? Found on the beach and very fragile, almost papery, presumably from age and environment? Teeth make me think not a bird but 🤷🏼‍♀️

Day off, which means on the go all day! School run followed by exercise class followed by hairdresser (wish I’d brought a snack!). Dash home to try and eat before school run, drop a kid at home then off to nail appt. Then I’ll finally be able to shower (sorry everyone who smells me today!) #smallbiz

Today was admin day! (Jk every day is admin day when you own a business). Updated an info sheet with some information about neuroplasticity. Then gave business support to another small business. Plus some big-picture thinking for a new venture as well as life admin!

This afternoon I had the first official meeting for a VERY interesting, and slightly scary new project. Hush hush at the moment but women of Stockport you’re in for a treat!

Last night I taught the second class of the current hypnobirthing course, the first in person due to the snow! We learned about pain relief and I had some really insightful questions about that, and maternity services more generally.

Today a lovely local nursery invited me in for a baby massage session. I led staff and parents through each area of the body and the benefit of the strokes. Judging from the sleepy faces the babies enjoyed it as much as I did!

This week I had a postnatal client struggling with how she was treated during birth. She had not had a complicated pregnancy. Spontaneous labour at home. Knew the birth centre was the best place for her. Arrived at the maternity unit and was blocked from going in.
