No one warned me so let me warn you: The Brutalist is a truly terrible film.

Yes, Brody's performance is impressive. And there are some beautiful shots (not enough to carry 3.5 hrs..)

But in story and style, it's eight films.

And politically, it's like Atlas Shrugged and Exodus had a baby.

Not good. RaMell Ross/Nickel Boys should've been nominated for so much more.
Guadagnino brought people back to the theatres with incredible films.
And for Emilia Pérez to get so many nominations but not Queer or I Saw the TV Glow is atrocious.
The Academy actually hates queer people.

Anyway when I look back on the cinema of 2024 in decades to come I won't think about Wicked, The Substance and Emilia Perez and the Oscars. I'll think of La Chimera's train compartments, Challengers' churro scene, Allerton's leg over Lee's in Queer, Elwood's face reflected, refracted in Nickel Boys

hello everyone who has followed me here bc of our tweet about trying to leave twitter. i would like to take this opportunity to say that challengers not being nominated for best original score is the most egregious snub in oscars history
