Going to the US for this tournament is proper fear and loathing stuff. Spend $10k to have a 20% chance of getting teargassed. Or kidnapped.

My sincere, respectful advice is to try not to accidentally sound like someone on Fox News talking about no go zones in British cities. We're a few generations down from our family coming to the UK. Our food, like our heritage, is layered, complex, remixed but British.

great on the dance floor, great in a suit, and the best win record of any manager post-fergie. why would he ruin it.

There is a very weird but direct line between Qanon and the unfolding of the permission structure that led to this.

Die vibes, die.

Nope.
January 5, 2026 at 3:48 PM
He is objectively (by far) the worst performing post-Fergie manager, and I think there is data supporting him being the worst ever? So not a lot of capital to come out with a back me or sack me statement in the week where he went back to his 343 principles and draw with the worst team in the league.

My personal feeling is this started from refusing to change from a back 3 against Everton after a 15th minute red card and go for it. We did have momentum at that point - had it carried into West Ham... Wolves etc. then maybe he would be in a back me or sack me position.

Like with Iraq, 'the oil' is just greasing the wheels of ideology.
January 3, 2026 at 1:26 PM
All true. But the 'what if' is that 6 points from Everton, West Ham or Bournemouth would have brought different high jeopardy stakes for Villa. That subtle shift of the game state could have been the edge.
December 22, 2025 at 2:09 PM
It's not losing to a really top Villa side that is the issue here. It's the inconsistent to poor home form that made this game more must-win than it really needed to be.

This is my policy area, so heart firmly in it, but if you want to see the best articulation of the moral + economic case for investing in the early years, then read President Ramaphosa's budget speech from earlier in the year. RSA subsequently elevated the issue through the G20. Great leadership.

Thats the Liz Truss argument.

That railway viaduct is cutting right across some desecrated forest.

My childhood - in the 90s - was sunday roast with yorkshire puddings and jerk chicken with rice and peas. When you import your racism from the US, you import all the downstream consequences of segregation, and miss the muddle of post-war UK immigration. Gran wasn't innovating. She was just living.

The test case is Peronism in Argentina. The modern economy is a tragic farce, but that doesn't mean the risk of hyper-inflation isn't real. You might want to magic away the bond markets, but you won't be able to magic away apples costing 60% mor every week.

Not to mention the Stockport to Manchester local train dividend.

Marseille is a top city. There's some vaguely pirate about it. Shares it with Liverpool and Naples. All of them full of life in the best possible way.

I'm inferring that a policy that will lift 500k of children out of poverty is good in of itself. That it was lifted just to mollify an elctoral block of 'people in poverty' is reductive. I don't have much truck with this Gov, but I do work in child rights. Many 5 year olds will thrive because of it.

5 year olds don't vote.

I was taught in a portakabin until year 2, I think. So around 1991 to 1993.

People with proper training are going to read it before Dan Hodges can fire off a take. This is good.
