For years I've run StoryADayRedux in September because I didn't want to step on the November's noveling toes. But maybe this year it won't matter so much? What do you think? StoryADay November, for those of you who couldn't make May happen (or want to do it all again)? storyaday.org/signup

Earlier this year, Dr. Jane Goodall sat down for an interview for Brad Falchuk’s new Netflix series, Famous Last Words.

The premise of the series is to interview people on the condition that the interview not air until the subject has passed away.

Been working hard recently and my brain is 'noping' all over anything writing-related. Not too worried about it. Listening to some unfamiliar music on BBC Radio 6 and trusting that the urge to create will return tomorrow.

“Levitating” is a classic, at this point, and she did a duet with Elton John (“cold cold Heart”). I really liked her 2024 album…it’s for you if you have room in your heart for ABBA and Kylie Minogue and Chappell Roan…Really great disco-pop.

Bravo to Bernadine Evaristo for setting up the RSL Pioneer Prize for older women writers, and for naming the working-class-born playright, poet, novelist, nonfiction writer, and activist Maureen Duffy as its first recipient.

Did you know that although 2000 soldiers at Valley Forge died of diseases, (more than in any single battle to that point) smallpox was not a big killer because George Washington ran a smallpox inoculation campaign. (Sadly there was no such precaution against dysentery and typhus).

Unsolicited writing advice, no. 170: Words matter. Words are the conduit for ideas. Words can affect the way your readers see the world; how they behave; how they relate to others. Every political movement, every religion, philosophy, war, began with ideas, translated into words. Use them wisely.
