My work as a faith formation pastor has been grounded in 1 John 1:3:

That which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you may have fellowship with us; and our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.
We're a nanny state too. We just have a more wicked nanny.

Will you ignore Jesus and the scriptures just because they don't sound like Republican talking points?

These are times when we can see how the Humanities have so much practical value.

"Our resources are not just for us or for our loved ones. Our duty, as Calvin says, is not “fully discharged” if we only attend to our own people. As Jesus taught us, the category of neighbor is far more expansive than we assume."

Eternal life has always been. As long as God has existed. We're invited in. It's our inheritance if we want it.

With falsehoods coming at us in torrents, I'm glad for the courts and their adversarial process for uncovering facts, evidence, and truth.

I was hungry; you gave me something to eat. I was thirsty; you gave me a drink. I was a stranger; you invited me in. I needed clothes; you clothed me. I was sick; you took care of me. I was in prison; you came to visit me. Whatever you did for the least of these, you did for me.

"Teacher, we know that you are a man of integrity. You aren’t swayed by others, because you pay no attention to who they are; but you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth." (Mark 12:14)

It's troubling that the American people are more bothered by tariffs than disappearing people without due process. We should be bothered by the tariffs. We should be outraged by the dehumanization.

Like in the 1960s and 70s, we need artists to help us find a heart and soul.

We are watching trust in America evaporate. Trust is a commodity that's way more valuable than silver or gold. Just look at the markets. Character matters.

Reading again about the Japanese internment camps during WWII. Much of what's happening today will be another shame our nation will have to bear in the future.

“Jesus is saying that when we observe suffering, the question isn’t who is to blame, but how can we help. We’ve all seen Christian leaders assign blame upon victims. But blame is what the satan does. Followers of Jesus are called to co-suffering love, not theological stone throwing.” [B. Zahnd]

The way of Jesus is love. The gift of the self. Self-sacrificing and others-oriented. There is no counter balance. No tension to manage. It's an all-in proposition. And it looks like 1 Corinthians 13 and Galatians 5.

We're not called to change the world, though that might happen. We are called to love the world, to be Good in the world and for the world. What happened?
