This is maybe the most niche thing ever, but I was introduced to the works of Sabin Bălașa by @deviinit.bsky.social the other day, and I Literally Can't Stop Thinking About This Design.

It's become a tradition of sorts that on new years eve, I just open a canvas and draw whatever comes to mind, so here's this I suppose
A strange beast with a long neck and a big smile stares back over their shoulder at the viewer. A streak of shiny gold swirls around them, controlled by a single raised hand which glows a bright blue.

A little me lore: For the past nine years, it's been a little tradition of mine to try draw something out of my comfort zone on Halloween. I just started this year's pic now, but I have no idea if it's gonna come together at all, so for the time being, here's a couple of pics from previous years!

The random team button has spoken, I am officially team fossil on art fight! This admittedly changes my plans a bit, but I find it more satisfying to be on the team with less players (substantially less in the case wow), so I'll figure it out!

Me: what if my characters had that weird ball shaped tail that stantler has
Rav and Vagre with their backs turned towards the camera, both of them sporting perfectly spherical tails that look almost unnatural. Rav looks back somewhat intrigued while Vagre looks much more amused. Rav: "Well this is weird..." Vagre with much more stylized, sharper text: "I'd say it looks rather DASHING" A huge, powerful looking beast with glowing eyes and glowing mouth and dark flowing fur (Voidmaker) looking absolutely shocked at their new perfectly round, stubby tail (which replaced their previously huge, flowing tail). They look genuinely confused.

I setup a few new character pages for Art Fight!
A reference for Corvalus "The Corvid King"; a tall corvid monster fellow. The following notes are shown on the ref: - Typically has a small army of corvids following him - Quite the storyteller! (most of the stories are about himself) There's also a guide on various ways you can draw his wings A reference for Vagre, "Loreless Beast", an eyeless beast with smooth skin and black teeth. The reference has the following notes - Usually hunched over (but can be drawn standing upright) - Feels smooth but very weird (Their whole body is the same consistency so you can pretty much press your hands in and feel their skeleton) - Stylized mouth (but can totally be drawn with a normal mouth) A reference for A.I.K.O., an "Autonomous Inflatable Kinetic Observer", a huge plane like entity with very cute eyes. Their ref has the following notes: - Jet that loves you' - Communicates with beeps and boops - Can be safely ridden! - Eyes are animated! - (above a picture of them holding a wing up with happy eyes) They are waving at you :) - Filled with air but also lots of tech! (still kind of heavy) - Bounces like a seal to move around while grounded (but like in slow motion due to their size)

I guess now is as good a time as ever to post Wereguar's ref here. I could have sworn I had shared it here before, but I guess not!
A reference for Wereguar, a 13 foot tall werewolf-esque monster. They have a bulky shape, with a thick long neck and an exaggeratedly huge tail. They lack facial features, and instead crudely drawn on eyes and mouth. The ref has the following notes on it: - Likes observing you from the rooftops - Agile, despite their massive size - Face is drawn on (Can be wiped off but mysteriously reappears some time later) - For something that's supposedly faceless, you've never felt so stared at - Big (technically a size-shifter, but they're usually roughly this height - Haunting, foreboding, but... weirdly friendly?? - You can't help but feel like he's hiding something though The second part of wereguar's reference, emphasizing "Material Shifting". He's depicted as his typical fluffy self, an inflatable version with simplified, smooth features, and an obsidian version with jagged edges. The reference has the following notes: - Not alive in the conventional sense, he is not bound to one state of being - Instantly shifts from one form to another (...but only when you aren't watching!) - (and yet they never stop staring) - No true base form. No form is prioritized over the other. All forms are him equally -Have you ever seen volcanic glass flowing in the wind?

In case you're curious, I've at least developed Avadra's home world a ton since then. Admittedly, most of it just still just lives in my head, but I've at least doodled a little bit of it!

These two were briefly a part of another game idea I had years ago (which, again, never got finished lol)

Sunrise and Sunset
An all black bipedal beast with glowing eyes and white teeth wading in knee deep water. Behind them, the clouds are lit by sunrise A city scene at sunset from several floors up, overlooking a river with city lights in the distance and the silhouette of mountains on the horizon. Blending with the mountains silhouette is the silhouette of a massive mountain lion with glowing eyes. Their head towers above the clouds, and their eyes even light up the clouds a little bit around their head.
