📣Today we launched our manifesto for Holyrood 2026. We're asking politicians to commit to 3 asks that will improve conditions for women working in culture, media, arts and the creative industries in Scotland. Read the manifesto: bit.ly/4mHKyWE
A mustard yellow square with the EMCC logo top left. On the right is a graphic illustration of three women. One has purple hair and white skin, another has red hair and pink skin, and the third has brown hair and brown skin. They are smiling and wearing colourful clothes. To the left of the illustration is the text in white: Transforming Culture for a Fairer Future. Our manifesto for Holyrood 2026.

📢 Please share with your networks and anyone you think might be interested! 📢 I'm looking for participants for my research project on young women's understanding of paid work on and through social media, including phenomena such as the #girlboss #corporatequeen or #lazygirljobs.
Do you identify as a woman and are aged between 18
and 30?
Do you use social media?
How do you feel about representations of paid work
on social media?
I am looking for women (including those identifying as non-binary and trans women) from all backgrounds who engage with work-related content on social to discuss their experiences. You do not need to be currently employed to take part in this study.

The interview will take approximately one hour and will be conducted online. You will be asked to bring in a meme relating to work – either one you found, or one you created yourself.

You will receive a £30 voucher for taking part in the
interview. Sign up to show interest by filling out this form: https://surreyfbel.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_aY6hOtqQ7BAaLQy

For more details, please contact the researcher Nathalie

📢 New research shows women face barriers & abuse as political candidates.

In our new report, we wanted to dig deep & explore the candidate journey for women, from preparing to stand as a candidate, including interview & vetting processes, to being elected & what happens after 🧵⬇
Graphic with purple text on a light pink background that reads 'We asked over 150 women what it's like to stand as a political candidate. Here's what they told us' Alongside illustrations including a mobile phone showing a woman candidate receiving online abuse on social media and pop up text messages with misconceptions about women's participation in politics.

Read our latest blog, by guest contributor Anna McFatridge of @strath-gender.bsky.social on the media's role in shaping narratives on harassment: shorturl.at/j8nao
A white rectangle with a quote in navy text centred in the middle. The quote reads: "The media plays a big role in shaping how we understand and respond to gender-based violence, and when the behaviour being reported falls short of physical assault, it's often treated less seriously." - Anna McFatridge. Bottom right is an abstract graphic design of a circle, triangle and an equals sign in pastel colours.

Guest post: "Why did they let this go on?" Anna McFatridge, MSc student at @strath-gender.bsky.social shares her research into how the media frames harassment as an institutional problem. bit.ly/43QXEcX
A blurry photograph of a phone screen with apps on it. It's possible to read the BBC News app on the phone. Text overlaid is a quote from Anna McFatridge's research reading: "Institutions should be held accountable when they enable harmful behaviour. But so should the individuals responsible for that behaviour."

This week we're joined on the blog by Ursula Grant, @strath-gender.bsky.social MSc student, who explores what feminist leadership is, and why the culture sector needs it. Read her blog now: bit.ly/3ZD4dhJ
A photograph of a woman with brown skin and black curly hair wearing a navy jumper and gold rimmed glasses. She's writing on a notepad and has a laptop on the desk in front of her.
