Categories of Akashic Life (AL) BASE_ETHER - slightly alive background radiation that is the primordial essence of human thought and willpower. as per the observation theory of quantum mechanics, BASE_ETHER is at its most powerful and volatile when not being observed and so all of the effects of it are most pronounced in areas humanity has long since abandoned. WITCH - a human being who has attained awareness of the BASE_ETHER through rigorous training and can harness and manipulate it to their own whims. in order to not observe when casting a spell, a WITCH must learn a technique to deprive themselves of all of their senses in the moment the spell is cast. not actually an AL but they form part of the ecosystem and are listed here for completion's sake SCRIPT - symbols or patterns written out of BASE_ETHER, capable of causing supernatural events to occur. although they are technically "alive" they have no mind of their own and must be activated by a WITCH. sometimes SCRIPTS occur naturally in the environment, but most of the time they have been created by a WITCH as well. LIMINA - a physical space accessible only to WITCHES or AL, often created as the byproduct of a powerful magical event. DAEMON - the guardian spirits of places and things abandoned by humanity, inexorably bound to defend whatever it is they were created from. if their origin point is destroyed, they will dissipate back into BASE_ETHER as they no longer have a purpose, unless they are bound to someone or something else by a WITCH WANDERING SHELL - if a DAEMON is born from an object that already has something of an implied "will" or "life", such as a storefront mannequin, the DAEMON will sometimes bond with that object in such a way that it appears the object has actually sprung to life. it is unclear whether this really counts as a separate state of AL from DAEMON.
