Hackers is the best. But I did notice that the villain in Eddington is also Big Tech. In Hackers the explicit baddie is The Plague, and in Eddington it’s … everyone. But in both films, tech in therein the background enabling systemic disfunction.

Awesome, thanks!

You didn't mention in your blog post, but it seems that this requires a Signal backup file from an Android device? The signalbackup-tools README.md says: “Tool to work with backup files generated by the Signal Android application.” Or did you find a way to use it only with Signal on macOS?

Thanks, I found the announcement email. Will you remain part of the team? Who's the new owner? Most importantly, are they cool?? :)

So, what does this mean for the future of Pingify? I like to know what’s happening with the tools I use. Will there be a blog post announcing the transition?

I felt so anxious watching this! It hits too close to home. 😥

Caddy is just used for certificate provisioning, right? Normal traffic is just → Nginx → Laravel?

Did you not find a solution that uses only Nginx+Lets Encrypt?

I’m currently using a Nginx caching reverse proxy with LE, but just adding certificates manually via certbot. 500+ domains, runs great.

Same here, RSS feeds are often too hard to find. Just FYI, most blogs use /feed/ as the RSS URL, including Chris’ which is /blog/feed/.

You can’t fool me; that sign says “podcasting.”

Typical. My most popular skeet is a slightly embarrassing photo of my butt.

Ya missed one.

In the article, the instruction to symlink `docker-compose` into `~/.docker/cli-plugins` may not be ideal. More robust to add "cliPluginsExtraDirs" to ~/.docker/config.json:

"cliPluginsExtraDirs": [
"/opt/homebrew/lib/docker/cli-plugins"
]

Don’t worry, you’ll be wasting time with this in your forties too. 🫠

Bsky doesn’t support bookmarks yet, but perhaps Readwise could be integrated as a labeler? See this example: bsky.app/profile/did:...

Yes! And Mastodon too!

Perhaps this is a broader problem for distributed networks. If someone runs their own personal data server they can populate their database with arbitrary content, and the relay servers just accept the dates as fact.

It can be solved by using a blockchain or Time-Stamp Protocol.

Good to know, thanks. Welcome! I’m following you from Mastodon via Bridgy. 👋

Huh, so Bsky allows creating backdated posts. I can think of how some might abuse this (pretending to predict something ex post facto, faking evidence, revisionist history, creating false alibis, IP theft, etc).
