#Top25 Lastly is the “rest”

Landman P+
Karen Pirie ITV
Assassin PRI
Film Club BBC
Mystery Road Origins ABC

Karen Pirie was phenomenal this year and Film Club was such a quirky, “small” show that packed a wallop.

Surprisingly this year I had more US shows, I typically favor UK/foreign material.

#Top25 Disney+ and Hulu had a fairly good year.

Paradise
Andor
Adults
Lowdown

Paradise was excellent, as was Andor but what really shocked me was how good Lowdown was. Early on I was worried, but wow that show was just singing by the end.

*I know some of these are maybe considered FX shows too.

#Top25 next up is #WB, with another great year.

Pitt
Last of Us
Hacks
Duster
Chair Company

The Pitt was an early and surprisingly great entry and I’m not sure what The Chair Company is, but it’s marvelous.

*I haven’t watched The Rehearsal yet but also hear good things there.

#Top25 next up is #Netflix, surprising even me this year with a strong line up of great shows.

Adolescence
Residence
Dept Q
Wednesday
Diplomat
Man on the Inside
Death by Lightning

I worry about the proposed WB merger but am encouraged by their strong year & willingness to grant more than 1 season.

#Top25 starts with my favorite streamer #AppleTV.

Silo
Severance
Studio
Pluribus

Such a diverse set of shows, each with a strong perspective, lavish productions, and excellent cast/writing, solidifying their crown as the premier drama shop.

I swear I didn’t do this on purpose, but here are my #Top25 shows of 2025 broken down by network/streamer (in no particular order). Although really #Adolescence and then everything else this year, that show was in a league of its own.

Watching #TheLowdown finale tonight, I’m reminded how hard it is to finish something well, and how rarely we see it done right. Sterlin Harjo, Ethan Hawke and Co. have absolutely nailed this finale (as well as the rest of the season). Epic soundtrack, tons of heart and just plain fun. Excellent.

Finally finished season 5 of #SlowHorses, and I’m convinced that, pound-for-pound, there is not a better serialized drama on TV right now (although #TheDiplomat comes close). Both shows are master classes in character specificity and plot. #Apple should be commended for curating this masterpiece.

After a break with #Netflix for awhile, I’m back and am working my way through #Diplomat Season 3. I was worried the shine would start to wear on this show but wow, it just keeps delivering. There isn’t much this show lacks, amazing writing, perfect cast and delivery, just excellent, no notes.

I’ve been enjoying Sterlin Harjo’s new show on #FX / #Hulu called #Lowdown. It’s been improving each week but man this week’s episode was just spectacular. I would watch these 2 in just about anything! The whole cast is great really but Hawke and Dinklage this week was just magic to behold.

I know I haven’t posted much lately but #FilmClub on #BBCThree was so weird and wonderful. It unfolded into a sweet albeit dysfunctional love story with zero throwaway actors. It’s a great study in character specificity and how you can do so much with so little. Punches way above its weight.

A well-earned season 2 pickup, glad to see Netflix allowing more shows to grow. I’m still a fan of the half-hour comedy genre and like blending them in with my drama mix. #Leanne

Ten years late on this, but if you’ve never watched #River, it’s simply fantastic. One of the best 6-episode miniseries ever made. Masterfully written and acted, they’ve taken a narrative “gimmick” and turned it into a textbook example of how to do it right. On BritBox in the US, just excellent.

I have to say this show just gets better and better…I know not a shock given the pedigree but still…it’s nice to see a show that is given time to evolve and find its characters, stories and charm. I wish more shows were given a chance to grow past “season 1”. #GildedAge #HBO
The Gilded Age will return for another season! HBO has renewed the series for Season 4 ahead of its Season 3 finale next month. Read on for the details! #TheGildedAge buff.ly/V7wCjpa

#HereWeGo Series 3 has dropped in the UK on #BBC. Easily one of my favorite pandemic-era shows, it has maintained its manic stories and broadly drawn comedy. It’s stupid fun and never fails to deliver.

#TheAssassin on #Prime is excellent, really action-packed but tempered with humor. Hawes and Highmore are fantastic but really the whole cast is exceptional. The problem is it’s only available in the UK (and Stan in AUS?), for US subscribers you will need a VPN to watch it but very much worth it.

#KarenPirie s2 has premiered and I am so looking forward to it. It’s been a long wait and absence has made my heart grow fonder. Part way in and I couldn’t be happier…

#StarTrek #StrangeNewWorlds is back on #Paramount+ and hasn’t lost a step. A reminder the first episode is a “part 2” of last season’s finale so it helps to rewatch. As irritated as I am about Paramount’s lawsuit settlement, it’s still great to see this show back, firing on all cylinders.

It took a few episodes before #Duster clicked for me but there’s no question it had earned another season. #HBO used to nurture these types of shows, knowing the audience would find and appreciate it down the road. Very disappointing…
