As the third Rocky statue is installed this week (at the airport), there are now almost as many Rocky statues in Philly as there are monuments to actual historic women.

Artist Rose Luardo is back with her now annual(?) absurdist installation in the triangle of nothing at Washington and Passyunk Avenues. This year, we get Crab Couch! Perhaps a not-so-subtle wink and nod at the location’s previous life.

Amy Sherald‘s “American Sublime” at the Baltimore Museum of Art is magnificent. You’ve got until April 2026 to check it out!

And if you didn’t know, Philly is actually home to Amy‘s only large-scale outdoor mural, located at 11th and Sansom Streets!

I feel like we can do better in Philly! Maybe the entrance escalators can be mural tunnels with art from local artists?! The rest of the airport has so much incredible local art. We gotta do better with our entrances to inspire locals and give the best first impression to visitors!

David Guinn’s “Schuylkill Falls” is located on JFK a half block west from 30th Street. David created the project with Justin Geller, 10th Floor Productions, Sid, and Le Josh for Brandywine Realty at Schuylkill Yards.

Philly’s newest work of public art was a gift from art collectors and Penn alumni, Glenn Fuhrman and Amanda Fuhrman. Titled "Rui Rui," the sculpture is by famed artist Jaume Plense, who’s perhaps best know for “Crown Fountain” at Millennium Park in Chicago.

Sometimes you just have to go appreciate the art of your city with the people who love doing the same! If you don’t know Philly With Lena yet, you will. And if you’ve walked by this mural a million times without truly noticing it in all its glory, slow down next time you’re in the neighborhood!

For last month’s Streets Dept Excursion, we checked out murals in West Philly, including this 20-year-old landmark from artist Ana Uribe! Located at 47th and Upland Streets, the mural was created with kids from the neighborhood and celebrates the power of mentorship!

Philly’s newest mural was hand-painted by artist Sāgar Kāmath in one of the windows of the Wanamaker building. Created with Mural Arts Philadelphia and #StreetsDeptWalls, the artwork was inspired by a collaboration Opera Philadelphia!

Today we learn about Getting to Green, a multi-layered project that is encouraging Philadelphians to use SEPTA to get to our city’s public green spaces! The project is guided by Shira Walinsky and Laura Deutch, who I interview for this video.
