I think I was a first year law student in NYC (if it happened in 1981) and the story was in the New York Times. It was horrifying at the time - that was a very important building in its day.

My Dad, born in 1935, was an Eagle Scout. HUGE part of his formation. Philmont Ranch jamboree. He was never and still isn’t a “macho man.” A creative person, loves words, raised six daughters.

Our neighbors had many turkey mishaps. One year they put the leftover turkey outside on a balcony or porch, different places. The dad went to get the leftover Christmas turkey but realized he was, in fact, eating leftover Thanksgiving turkey, after several freezes and thaws in the ensuing weeks.

Some people, me included, are shocked that the deal was struck secretly by folks who had clear conflicts of interest, so are inclined to be sympathetic with the U. Painter, like me, might be on her and the U’s side in part because of the way in which the deal was struck. Also, he works for the U.

He’s otherwise not right wing, I like him a lot, but I wonder why he seems to be going so out of his way to be so divisive on this issue. It doesn’t even seem to be politically expedient within our party.
