Its the biggest barrier I agree. They estimate 55% of households have a driveway. Once all these have an EV the remaining will be tricky unless public charging is made cheaper and more accessible.

You are in a serious minority, surveys show 90% of EV drivers would not go back to petrol.

Or by burning more petrol and diesel. Which far outweighs owning an EV. Get an EV if you need to drive.

That’s because its cheaper to charge at home. You only need to use an expensive charger on the occasional long journey.

Maybe. It must cost a few quid to install those High powered chargers though. Ones near me are not used much. Vital to be able to charge at home IMO.

Another treading the unfathomable path from liberal left/centrist to deranged a la Philips and Moore.

Do you mean unilateral nuclear disarmament? Presumably we still have army, navy and airforce.

I am in favour of whatever might work. Some battery storage, making hydrogen with excess wind/solar. Other methods of storing energy. Some nuclear if affordable and quick enough. Greens still the pick out of the current choices.
November 19, 2025 at 7:39 PM
Agree, don’t scrap existing nuclear but 12 years and around 38-50 billion to build sizewell C. Nuclear would be great if not so expensive and take so long to build. Wind and solar vastly cheaper and can be built much quicker.

Just realised you are talking Aussie magpies - I am UK.
November 16, 2025 at 8:23 PM
Are you aware that there are ~ 10,000 ‘gamekeepers’ that trap and kill magpies all spring long in thousands of woodland copses in farmland in the UK using live magpies as call birds in Larsen traps. Always amazes me what some folk get up to/get away with.

Its not many but always surprising/disappointing when it happens.

Do you remember when Melanie Phillips was a left wing writer for the guardian. Seems to be a tradition of some guardian journos going crazy over time.

You can call yourself ‘Democratic’ all you want. Evil actions whatever the justification are still evil. Appalling and enormous ongoing atrocities by the state of Israel pn civilians - utterly shameful. Where does Israel go from here? As a centrist UK resident a big FU to you all.
