Sociologist/author/educator seeking a saner space post-X.
I like calm, happy thinkers.

Substack: a satirical old College where tutors discuss biscuits, UK politics without the rage and old-school Liverpool match reports.

Even before Twitter became X, you needed the strength of Odysseus sailing past the Sirens not to get drawn down into binary gutter shouting over there. Best left well alone.
I have far, far fewer followers over here, but everyone I do have is reasonable, and I appreciate you all for that.
Beyond everything else, for me it's the backsliding on #climate challenges that defines the danger of the Trump/Farage et al position.

Almost finished this. A flippant bureaucrat becomes king and decrees all London boroughs become mini fiefdoms, then the Provost of Notting Hill takes the whole thing very seriously, defending his streets with military might. Cynic and Believer crash. A ridiculous romp.

Stuck for a New Year's Resolution that isnt just 'give up [x] for a month'?
How about 'Give up X for a month'?
Imagine waking up without feeling like the world is broken in such a way that only a wealthy polulist can fix it.
Or sleeping soundly without any outrage keeping you awake.
Just a thought.

Aaron Briggs has gone. That's good management from FSG. No one to replace him, but things can't get any worse without him.

The best short book I've ever read. It's only 29 pages long and the text doesn't start until page 9. It concerns the best advice for building an outdoor toilet... and yet it's still bloody brilliant! Has anyone else read this?

Since LFC's latest victory I've heard some fans say Slot has earned himself "a stay of execution". What? Will they turn their lasers from STUN to KILL if we lose again?

To paraphrase Woody, "You are NOT a boardmember! You. Are. A. Fan! And there's a team out there that needs our help."

xG would have us third in the league. Yes, that is still 7 points off the top but hardly anything to panic over. Relax, everyone, and trust the team to carry on working hard to cut out those errors.

Or call for the manager's head like a banshee if you think that will help.

The constant backdrop to my living room. Some daft things, some I'll never touch again, some that I can't forget, some I've written myself, one that is a secret hideyhole, and on and on. Can you imagine living in a place without books? I know I can't. #bookshelves

Thoroughly enjoying editing Day 1 of my seven day Flag book. 9 sections down, 4 to go. My favourite line from today's writing:

"A penny balanced on the brink of Mrs Peterson’s mind until gravity, that reliable old enforcer, tipped it in."

Happy to amuse myself all day 🙂

This little fella needs fixing. He's been sat on my workbench for the last fortnight watching over my handiwork while I crack on with Christmas hiking stick orders. He doesn't seem to mind. He's very patient.

Being a Liverpool fan the thing that hurts the most right now is seeing outrage driving a wedge between us. I don't recognise that in us. It's like 'booing Trent' all over again. I'm staying focused on that sweet silver song of the lark...

An industrious performance from the Anfield men, but their ill-fortune led to a most bitter defeat. One feels sure they will rise and soar before too long. Until then the faithful choir must keep its collective pecker up.
