the great thing about the modern world is that you can mention Cabaret Voltaire… I can think “ooh I know that name” and in less time taken to write this post can be catching up. But nothing beats sitting on a bus reading a record sleeve and waiting to get home to hear what I’ve just bought.

Aaah 1987… just as the entire world lost its mind and decided Acid House was the future… at that point I wandered off into Acid Jazz and actual modern jazz if I remember correctly.

I genuinely don’t know how you can have missed CMAT this year and be aware of Wet Leg from 2024 (similar age, doesn’t listen to the radio any more and just streams music I already know/like)

funnily enough if you rewrite the lyrics of West End Girls to suit it works perfectly:

Too many shadows, whispering voices
Faces on posters, too many choices
If, when, why, what?
How much have you got?
Have you got it, do you get it, if so, how often?
And which do you choose, a hard or soft option?

I have heard in the past a dog’s sense of smell enables them to “see” backwards through time. The same logic extends to “there was a cat here an hour ago” for example.

for some reason, today my Facebook feed has been littered with posts about Philip Elsmore who was SUCH a familiar part of Thames Television from my childhood. He died in August this year and feels very much like the end of an era.

how did we get from dangerous “Red Ed” to Miliband, E being described as the embodiment of the soft left of the Labour Party by @lewisgoodall.com? It’s almost like the tabloids lied to us…

treating socks as singular objects is psychotic. Hanging them up to dry in pairs (with matching pegs) is completely normal

thank you, made for a lovely Sunday breakfast. I thought for a moment that the title track was referencing Goldfrapp’s Utopia but it isn’t. I learned today that any song called Utopia seems similar because of the rhythm of the word. I also reminded myself that Goldfrapp at their best are exquisite

the implications of that (earlier shutdown of CBeebies to accommodate) don’t bear thinking about. Which is why BBC2 should have been used instead.

you appear to be confused about that email address… but it’s really just an abbreviation of askrichardherringanything. Chris Evans (not that one) isn’t mad.
